One of the most common soil improvement methods is soil stabilization using Portland cement. However, cement production has many environmental challenges, and engineers constantly look for suitable alternatives. Geopolymer, also known as green cement, can be a proper alternative with considerable benefits over Portland cement. Soil stabilization regarding the environmental impacts is essential. There are limited studies on using natural-based geopolymer and nanomaterial to improve the mechanical properties of soil. Therefore, this research investigated the improvement of poorly graded sand using a geopolymer based on Sirjan natural pozzolan (30%), nanosilica (1, 2, 3, and 4%), and nanoclay (1, 2, 3, and 4%) in NaOH solution. This investigation aimed to enhance unconfined compressive strength (UCS), tensile strength, and modulus of elasticity (E) of poorly graded sand. The results showed that Sirjan pozzolan-based geopolymer could be a suitable material to improve the mechanical behavior of such soils. In addition, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were performed. The results showed a strong bond between additives and the formation of aluminosilicate gel in the geopolymeric structure, which increased the soil's load-bearing capacity.Item type | Current location | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode | Item holds |
